VSO is one of the largest independent volunteer development agencies in the world. It recruits volunteers for a variety of volunteer positions from long-term to short-term.

Short-term opportunities are aimed at highly experienced professionals who can provide advice at senior levels. The assignments can last from two weeks to six months. Our short-term volunteers have a wide range of specialist skills and they work in the same countries and on the same programmes as our long-term volunteers. 

VSO works in 35 of the poorest countries in Africa and Asia. We also have very significant programmes in education, health, disability, HIV & AIDS, participation & governance and secure livelihoods.

VSO recruits volunteers in Europe from three bases, Ireland, The Netherlands and the UK, where the head office is located. VSO also recruit volunteers from Canada, The Philippines, Kenya and India.
VSO is supported financially by the UK Government's Department for International Development, Irish Aid, TMF and PSO in The Netherlands, multi-lateral donors, international business, charitable trusts and individuals. We have a register of skilled volunteers and actively find new volunteers for specific roles when necessary.
